Senior Backend Engineer

Our client is a leading global marketplace for collectible luxury wines and spirits. Founded 20 years ago in the UK, the company now has a global presence.  Its product and service portfolio is built on two main pillars: an e-commerce-based webshop/marketplace where wines and spirits (such as gin and whiskey) are available for purchase, and a more complex portfolio management platform that allows customers not only to buy products, but also to resell or store them long-term.
To support their goals of expanding geographically and venturing into new business areas, we are looking for Backend Engineers to join their in-house technology team in Budapest, Hungary.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining server-side application components of the custom-built proprietary software. 

Your day-to-day work will include:

• understanding the business needs and co-operating with stakeholders,
• designing and implementing new features and components,
• maintaining a clean, testable, secure and well-documented codebase,
• troubleshooting and debugging,
• participating in code reviews and occasionally in pair programming,
• participating in agile ceremonies.

• You will need solid knowledge and proven experience in Node.js and TypeScript,
• relevant experience working on software backend as a Backend Engineer or in similar position (e.g. Full Stack Developer)
• strong understanding of backend architecture, and APIs,
• familiarity with React, MongoDB, GraphQL, 
• knowledge of functional programming patterns, and
• Fluent spoken and written English and Hungarian skills.

Experience with Docker and MS Azure is a plus.

• responsibility for a module or functionality,
• excellent communication skills for co-operating with stakeholders, co-workers in business or operations teams, and other engineers (frontend, devops, infra, QA etc),
• the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-IT team members or clients,
• understanding business, translating business needs into software,
• understanding and managing dependencies, and knowing when to seek for help and when to solve a problem independently,
• knowledge sharing, mentoring, giving feedback (code reviews, pair programming).

Remote with the opportunity to visit their office in downtown Budapest.

Work hours are from 8.30 AM to 17.30 PM sharp.
